Equal Access to Original Birth Certificates (OBC) vary state to state. Just as with other civil rights issues; women's right to vote and equal voting rights, this is a national issue.
The right to a person's OBC should not depend on the geography of their birth. The shame and secrecy of adoption has passed and the myths of the BSE, Baby Scoop Era, have been exposed.
Everyone is entitled to their history and now DNA can help reunite families separated even decades ago, but that still does not give adoptees the right to hold their OBC in every state.
Original Birth Certificates are a basic civil right and every US citizen should be able to have theirs, no matter where they were born.
Please give adoptees equal access to their original birth certificates!
