Gay individuals are facing a crisis in the countries of Uganda and Nigeria. The governments are perpetrating human rights violations against their citizens based only upon their sexual orientation. Many fear even coming out because of the threat of torture, imprisonment, or death. Healthcare and shelter are being denied, and people are being forced into identifying those who are gay, or are rumored to be gay.
The gay people of Uganda and Nigeria need a safe place to go, and the United States can provide such a place for them. We ask the Obama administration to grant asylum to gay political activists and prisoners in Uganda and Nigeria in order to create a better world.
