We the undersigned ask the Obama administration to grant asylum to LGBT Russians fleeing the growing repression in their country.
Since Russian President Vladimir Putin signed into law a bill effectively outlawing pro-LGBT advocacy, the situation for LGBT people there has only worsened, with thugs routinely assaulting LGBT people and brazenly posting videos online, as well as harassment by government authorities.
Recently, it was revealed that the Russian government bugged an LGBT human rights group's meeting and then broadcast a recording on television, warning viewers of a "threat to Russia" posed by "homosexualists who attempt to infiltrate our country."
Despite reassurances by Putin, it's likely that the situation for LGBT people there will get worse in the near future.
