Ms. Hernández-Polanco is a transgender woman currently being held in an all-male detention facility run by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
In October, she turned herself in at the border and requested asylum because she fears persecution because she is transgender.
Department of Homeland Security regulations require ICE to take the gender identity of the people it holds into account, yet ICE placed Ms. Hernández-Polanco in a facility for men.
Another detainee has assaulted her, and officers have groped her during pat-downs and called her "it" and a "woman with balls".
Tell the administration to treat Ms. Hernández-Polanco with the respect she deserves as a human being and asylum seeker.
