Create a simple, streamlined process to obtain tax-exempt status for legitimate online fundraising efforts aimed at helping the victims of the Boston bombings pay for healthcare, rehabilitation, and other costs associated with their injuries. This tax-exempt status should apply retroactively to the many fundraising efforts that have already been set up by friends and family members to benefit their injured loved ones.
The outpouring of generosity by the American people for the victims of the Boston bombings has been overwhelming. Yet, even for those victims covered by health insurance, the road to recovery will be long and costly. Tax-exempt status will allow those injured in the attack to receive better treatment and will encourage greater charitable giving.
