The Islands of Puerto Rico, Guam, The Northern Mariana Islands and The U.S. Virgin Islands currently are not U.S. states as such the people of these territories are treated as second class citizens, they do not receive adequate representation in the U.S. Congress and do not get to vote in presidential elections. The situation is even worse for the people of American Samoa who along with the issues raised above do not receive citizenship statues but are instead U.S. Nationals. The time has come for the Obama administration to grant all the rights of statehood to these territories and give the 4 million that make up these territories the rights that all Americans are entitled to.
