Harriet Tubman's heroic service to our country during the 'Civil War' has been insufficiently appreciated for far too long. She treated soilders with small pox, recruited soilders, scouted and mapped terrian deep inside enemy territory like the special forces of today, and even led an armed assault.
Despite all this, her status as a veteran and war hero was never properly respected in her time and still has not been to this day.
You can help change this by awarding her the Congressional Medal of Honor. Certainly her years of selfless service, risking her life in various unorthodox ways time and again, qualify her for this most prestigious award.
We cannot erase the racism and sexism she experienced in her life, but we can and should renounce it and correct the record with this honor.
