Grant independence to Puerto Rico. Recognize the Republic of Puerto Rico declared twice, in 1868 and in 1950.

Created by J.O. on March 24, 2014

Puerto Rico has the right to self determination. It has been a colony of the USA since 1898. Currently there is great economic hardship that has proven impossible to fix due to the political situation. Becomig independent, and still mantaining close economical ties to USA will allow the island to expand its economical, cultural and political ties with other nations in the world. It will allow the expansion of its economical base, reduce and hopefully eliminate, centuries of dependance.

Puerto Rico is culturally different to USA, hence becoming a state of the union is not a logical move. The most dignifying and plausible alternative is full independence.

Puerto Rico should be able to stand side by side with USA and any other free nation of the word in creating a better place for all.
