As of 2013, there are more people in modern-day slavery than at any point in history with estimates at 27 million adults and 13 million children.
Even in the U.S., where some of the toughest laws have been enacted, people are still kidnapped and sold in the country. Annually, about 14,500 to 17,500 people are sold in the U.S.
Globally, between 600,000 and 800,000 people are sold yearly with approximately 80% of them being sexually abused.
Human trafficking is the second-most fought crime in the country, however only about $250,000 were used to combat it, with $41 billion dollars a year fighting against illegal drugs.
