With the budget issues our country is currently facing we could reduce our annual deficit significantly if we released non violent drug offenders. Instead of expensive and ineffective incarceration we could offer drug treatment to actually help these people. This decisive action would bring an important issue to the public eye for serious debate; proving to the American people that real change is happening with your administration.
Our current system punishes these people long after recovery and makes them unable to gain loans, housing, education, and even jobs. Pardons would stimulate a demoralized workforce; giving many a second chance. What we propose is an act of mercy towards our friends and family members who need our help and support. Only real criminals should be behind bar.
