Allow psychologists with proper training in psychopharmacology to prescribe psychotrophic drugs to treat mental illnesses.
This will allow patients better access to psychological treatment as there is a extreme shortage of psychiatrists that shows no signs of changing, especially in rural communities. The U.S. military already allows its psychologists to prescribe, so why not civilian psychologists? Non-physicians can also prescribe, such as nurse practitioners and pharmacists, so it would be logical to allow psychologists the same right. In addition, in the few places that psychologists that can prescribe, there have been NO complaints or lawsuits considering their drug treatments.
