Puerto Rican nationalist Oscar Lopez Rivera, was convicted in 1981 of Seditious Conspiracy (attempting to overthrow the U.S. government in Puerto Rico by force)-- with no deaths. He was given a 55 year sentence (plus 15 years for attempted escape =70 yrs.), a period greater than any other American citizen would have received. At 70 yrs of age, Mr. Lopez's health is failing. He poses no threat to the American public at large.The President should grant Mr. Lopez unconditional release as the UN and many others worldwide have petitioned.
