Grant Purple Hearts to combat veterans and support personell who return from deployment and are diagnosed with PTSD.

Many of the brave men and women returning from deployment are diagnosed with PTSD. These soldiers sailors and marines are as wounded as their comrads who have suffered physical wounds. Because their wounds are not physical, that is, they do not show on the outside, they are not entitled to honor of being awarded a Purple Heart. While these brave souls are deeply wounded and in need of specialized medical treatment, the criteria for awarding a Purple Heart is based upon the definition that a "wound" is defined as an injury to any part of the body from an outside force or agent. We now know that psychological wounds are every bit as serious and as debilitating as physical wounds. It is time to honor our brave defenders by including all of them in this singular, sadly earned award.
