The Gullah Language and People are a unique culture existing in the South Carolina Low Country and Sea Islands. These were people forced from their homes in Africa (much like the native Americans were forced from their homes) and escaped to this area.
We are asking the US Government to grant the Gullah people a reservation/nation much like the Native Americans that rules itself subject only to Federal Law. We wish that St. Helena Island and other areas (such as federal land in the Gullah/Geechee Cultural Heritage Corridor) be used for this purpose and any African American that can embrace Gullah Culture and is descended from Slaves be allowed to reside and apply for residency.
