Grant Statehood for the District of Columbia (Washington DC).

Created by R.A. on October 05, 2011

Currently, residents of Washington DC are required to pay federal taxes and follow federal laws, yet they have no voting representation in Congress. They face TAXATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION. This is the same grievance that the thirteen original colonies had with the British Parliament which eventually led to the American Revolutionary War. This is a major violation of the basic rights of Americans to have voting representation in Congress and must be dealt with IMMEDIATELY. Washington DC has a population of 601,723 (According to the 2010 census), that's more people then the state of Wyoming (563,626, according to the 2010 census). Washington DC deserves the right to have elected, voting representation in Congress. Please grant statehood to Washington DC.
