On August 1 2010, Marissa fought for life in her own home against an attacker - her husband. She was convicted on three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon with no intent to harm, and sentenced to 20 years in prison. She owned a legitimate and current gun permit that she was trained to used. At the time she was defending herself, she had a restraining order outstanding against her husband. He threatened her and shouted, "If I can't have you, no one can!" just before he charged at her. Marissa stand five feet two inches and was hospitalized by her husband's assaults the year before.
