U.S. DoD Civilian Police fall under the regular GS federal employee pay scale and regular 30 year FERS. This is inconsistent with similar federal law enforcement agencies who are on a law enforcement specific pay scale and 6c retirement. According to Title 5 of the USC, a law enforcement officer (LEO) is someone whose duties “are primarily the investigation, apprehension, or detention of individuals suspected or convicted of offenses against the criminal laws of the United States, or the protection of officials of the United States against threats to personal safety.” DoD Civilian Police not only meet that very definition but also receive the same or similar training as other comparable agencies. DoD Police are severely underpaid and inconsistent with other federal LEO benefits.
