Narendra Modi, the chief minister of Gujarat state in India is currently running his fourth consecutive term as chief minister.
In 2005 Modi was denied visa to US, in addition to this denial, his existing B-1/B-2 visa was also revoked, under a section of the Immigration and Nationality Act which makes any foreign government official who was responsible or "directly carried out, at any time, particularly severe violations of religious freedom" ineligible for the visa.
However, a Supreme Court of India appointed Special Investigation Team has cleared Modi of the charge that he failed to discharge his constitutional duty to intervene swiftly and stop the communal riots that engulfed the state in 2002.
In 2012, UK & European Union ended boycott on him delinking him from human rights issue.
