We the people request a voluntary opt out provision for Social Security Insurance with a full refund of premiums. Government has told us the funds exist in a "lockbox" so this is completely feasible. For those who wish to remain in the system that is completely up to them as individuals.
This would provide the greatest possible stimulus package imaginable. Banks were bailed out with taxpayer debt only to their detriment. However, a return of SS premiums to their rightful owners would put much needed cash flow into the economy immediately, and at zero cost.
Certainly all people should plan for retirement, but if they can't pay their bills today, retirement is only a pipe dream. As the commercial says... "It's my money and I need it NOW".
