Our nation's annual defense budget is about $610 billion, yet we have nearly 50,000 homeless veterans. There is no excuse for a country as wealthy as ours to send men and women into war, then fail to make sure they are cared for when they return.
Therefore we ask that the President veto any defense spending bill that fails to set aside at least 10% of the total budget specifically for outreach, mental health, and housing programs specifically for combat veterans.
