I disagree that an assault weapons ban will work to reduce crime. I don't care if they are banned or not. I have come to some conclusions that I think are real solutions. We must realize that mass shootings and street crimes are two very deferent problems.
1) we must eliminate "soft targets" such as schools and place that attract large crowds. Every school in America should have police and/or armed private security on campus anytime students are present. Schools are only open like 7 months of the year and only like 7 hours a day. Cost is negligible. This the only solution to the mass shooting problem by the way.
2) A mandatory 5 year sentence should be imposed on anyone that commits any crime with a gun. This should be served first before the sentence for the other charges starts.
