Tests being conducted by the U.S. Navy of its underwater explosives and high-intensity sonar systems are drowning out the natural acoustic environment of whales—leading to the animals’ injury and even their death.
Now President Obama is proposing similar sonar testing to discover oil deposits in the ocean off the eastern seaboard of the U.S.
Both the President and the Navy have acknowledged that this testing will kill or injury thousands of marine mammals. This testing must not be allowed to go forward.
