Halt military aid to Egypt's authoritarian regime

Created by P.C. on January 31, 2014

Since the ouster of President Mohammed Morsi in July 2013, the Egyptian military has ruled that country despotically. The Muslim Brotherhood was declared a terrorist organization for a bombing that the party condemned and for which a militant group claimed responsibility. Opposition members have been jailed, critical media have been silenced, public demonstrations have been outlawed, and over one thousand protesters have been killed. In such a political climate, the referendum for Egypt's new constitution was obviously unfair; yet this same referendum is being used as justification for resuming full military aid to Egypt. By supporting this brutally repressive regime, the administration continues to give fodder to the same anti-Western extremism it is combating. Halt military aid to Egypt.
