It is estimated that over 4 million tons of junk mail are sent in the US alone, every year.
With e-mail we can simply click "unsubscribe" on most unwanted items in our inbox to impede further solicitations. Conversely, to be removed from lists that utilize the postal service, it is much more complicated, if even possible, and most individuals choose to discard or recycle the unwanted mailings as it is much simpler to do so.
Enact legislation that states: As a requirement to send at a bulk mail rate, companies must be required to print on mailings a QR code that brings the consumer to an to unsubscribe web page. This page must allow them to be removed from future postal mailings or opt for e-delivery. Including stiff fines for page outages.
Modified CAN-SPAM Act rules should be created.
