The purpose of this petition is to have the public education system of New York City recognize Eid as a holiday and allow students of all public schools have the two Eid holidays with no school. No marked absences, no grades hampered with. Think of it something similar to how schools are closed for students during Christmas. And countless of other holidays, both religious and honorable. The Muslim population is high, and we all would like to be able to celebrate our two cherished holidays, Eid-al-Fitr and Eid-al-Adha, with no stress over schoolwork or missing out on a day.
