New Jersey currently has no state dog. In fact only 11 states currently have a state dog. This petition is to have NJ adopt the the American Pitbull Terrier as our state dog. New Jersey and pitbulls have a lot in common. Pitbulls have been misunderstood. Pitbulls get bad press. New Jersians are proud and loyal. New Jersey has a long history. New Jersey offers so much and yet still is the punch line. We're famous, talked about and sometimes reviled just like the Pitbull. Plus if we adopted the Pitbull as our state dog, we'd be making a statement to those who might not understand how wonderful the APBT is. The Pitbull represents our mentality in NJ as tough, loyal, smart, citizens who don't like to be messed with. What dog could better represent our state?
