The Zika virus is mosquito borne and "may" lead to babies being born with abnormally small head, microcephaly, and incomplete brain development in newborns. It is spreading rapidly in South America, and has now made its way to Puerto Rico. In Brazil it is estimated that 1.5 million have been affected, and over 3000 babies have presented with this "small head" condition - ten times the usual number. It is expected that this disease will soon appear in Florida, the Gulf Coast states, and possibly Hawaii. Lets jump on this problem quickly to minimize the potential personal and social damage by developing a vaccine for it.
