Have the D.E.A. begin proceedings to move Marijuana from a Schedule I to a Schedule V Controlled Substance.

Created by L.K. on May 07, 2013

We the undersigned do hereby petition the United States Drug Enforcement Agency, as an agency under the authority of the Office of the President, to initiate proceedings to change the schedule of Marijuana from a Schedule I Controlled Substance to a Schedule V Controlled Substance, or to delete Marijuana from the Controlled Substance Schedules altogether.
Currently, as a Schedule I Controlled Substance, Marijuana is put on a par with heroin. It is considered a more extreme drug than Schedule II substances such as methamphetamines ("speed"), oxycodone or opium.
A Schedule V classification would put it on the par with Robitussin AC.
This is a procedure that can be accomplished through the joint action of the D.E.A. and the F.D.A. without any action--and no political risk-- from congress.
