Comcast Corporation has proposed a merger with Time Warner Cable that will create a massive telecommunications company servicing 30% of US cable TV customers and 40% of the US broadband internet market. While consumers have increasing choices for TV viewing due to new technologies, they have very limited choices for their internet providers, In fact, 70% of the US has access to two or fewer broadband internet providers and 30% have access to only one broadband internet provider. The proposed merger will hinder the competitive landscape for broadband internet even further, leading to fewer choices and higher prices for broadband service across the US. The DOJ has a duty to the American people to challenge this merger and protect the US broadband marketplace.
