The FCC should eliminate the ability for telecommunication companies (telcos) and internet service providers (ISPs) to charge differential base rates for their services based on type, brand, capabilities and the like (i.e. iPhone, Android, 4G radio) of the mobile device used by the consumer/customer. This is often referred to as the "Smart Phone Tax." All such mobile technology devices should be allowed to work at any price level offered, unless the cost of the device is subsidized in some manner by the service provider.
Sending internet data to a "dumb" or "feature" phone via 3G or 4G cost no less than sending that same data to a "smart" phone. This is partly due to service providers' use of hardware lock-in and "locked" phones. These practices are not legal in some countries.
