Antibacterial soaps and other products containing antibiotics such as triclosan are known to increase bacterial resistance to antibiotics, which is a dire and growing threat to all of humanity. At the same time, these products offer no benefits to consumers, evidence shows antibacterial products are no more effective at preventing illnesses the the harmful spread of germs than ordinary soaps. Soaps, cosmetics, or other non-medical products containing medically useful antibiotics should be immediately banned.
Plastic (polyethylene) microbeads are tiny plastic beads used in many products like body washes and facial scrubs. These tiny bits of plastic are designed to be washed down the drain, and since they're so small, they pass right through wastewater treatment plants, into the oceans.
