Polls conducted across the country have demonstrated that the majority of Americans want the US Federal Government to replace Columbus Day with Native American Day. Columbus Day celebrates historical misconceptions and the world's largest holocaust; whereas Native American Day pays tribute to Indian Tribal Leaders. This is why lawmaker Roger Hernandez (D-West Covina) introduced a bill that would make Native American day a paid California holiday on the 2nd Monday of October. Moreover, South Dakota and Wisconsin celebrate the day as an official state Native American Holiday. Other states like California and Texas have removed Columbus Day as a paid holiday. It is now time for the federal government to bring about a National Holiday for Native Americans to be celebrated by all citizens.
