Homelessness is a chronic issue that controls the lives of many groups of people such as foster youth/alumni, veterans, the mentally ill, the chronically ill, and the elderly to name a few. These groups of individuals are homeless as a result of the violation of the following human rights:
• Right to housing & education
• Right to food
• Right to income equality
• Right to security of person
• Right to the access of adequate health & social services
These human rights violations affect the day to day life of every homeless person(s). It prevents these individuals from reaching their full potential and feeds the cycle of poverty.
Defining homeless individuals and families as ‘internally displaced persons’ will help to change the face of homelessness as well as identify gaps in services.
