The IRS is annually provided with W-2, 1099, 1098 and other financial information from employers, financial institutions and others and should be provided to all taxpayers in pre-filled out tax forms to prevent duplication of effort and errors in filing that lead to unnecessary and costly audits. Taxpayers would then only need to add unreported information, such as charitable donations, and select appropriate exemptions and credits. These pre-filled out forms should be provided via U.S. Postal service and be available on a secure web site that requires appropriate authentication to prevent Identity Theft and filing of fraudulent returns.
