have the IRS raise the combined monthly limit for transit passes and vanpooling expenses from $130 to $245.

Created by B.J. on November 25, 2015

Raise the IRS monthly limitation for the qualified transportation fringe benefit from $130 back to the 2013 limit of $245 for transportation.

As federal wage increases continue to fall behind costs of inflation, and highways become more congested, the majority of federal employees rely on mass transit options.

However, the cost of mass transit (especially in the DC Metro area) is often not being covered by the current $130 benefit. This may lead commuters to consider other options which may not be as supportive to improving traffic congestion and the environment.
