Substitute teachers play a valuable role in our schools. They serve various schools by following school policies to maintain student order and productivity. Substitutes must interact with many students, and can aid in the learning process during their time at a school. Although some people do not view substituting as a real job in the ordinary sense, the experiences each day are comparable to regular staff.
The pay rate for substitutes has been neglected for far too long. Substitute teaching should be the equivalent of at least a $25,000 job. With that being the case, the pay rate for substitutes should be increased to a minimum pay rate of $137 per day. A substitute would then total approximately $25,000 if they accept an assignment every day of a school year.
