Have May 22, Harvey Milk Day, be a national holiday

Created by R.H. on November 23, 2014

Harvey Bernard Milk
(1930-1978)
"You gotta give them hope."

Milk was an advocate for civil rights for the LGBT community, and the first openly-gay politician to hold public office in the United States. Because of his untimely death by assassination, Milk was unable to fulfill future endeavors that might have impacted millions of people across the country, if not the World. With the rise of marriage equality in the United States, it only makes sense to have a national holiday dedicated to the one person responsible for giving LGBT citizens a voice. California all ready celebrates this holiday every year, now it's time for the nation to do the same in recognizing the impact this man had on countless individuals who looked to him for inspiration.
