We urgently desire Obama, the first sitting President to defend the civil right to marry, to speak out. Following the May 2012 popular vote to limit marriage equality in North Carolina, President Obama's campaign said he was "disappointed with North Carolina's constitutional amendment banning gay marriage." This statement of “regret" through his campaign is applauded, but insufficient—there is more that he can do. Now that the Democratic platform officially endorses gay marriage, we need President Obama (a Democrat) to personally and publicly speak out against the proposed Minnesota constitutional marriage amendment, PRIOR to the November election.
