Request that the leadership show solidarity for their workforce. Federal civilians are being required to furlough and their leadership should not be exempt from also requiring the same deduction in their paycheck. Each cabinet member should share the same burden as their civilian workforce (i.e., Secretary of Defense should deduct 11 days of pay as Defense Department employees are furloughing for 11 days). And as the head of the Executive Branch, President Obama should give up the maximum number of days as the hardest hit civilian workforce.
Finally, President Obama should petition congressional members to also take the same pay deduction as the hardest hit Executive Branch civilians because the Legislative Branch agreed to sequestration implementation.
