We wish to see President Obama swear or affirm his second Oath of Office upon a copy of the US Constitution, which he is pledging to "preserve, protect, and defend" rather than a holy book. We find it more meaningful as the elected leader of this nation that President Obama would swear upon the bedrock document of our nation. We are a nation united by the Constitution, not by religion, citizens could agree with swearing upon a copy of the Constitution instead of a holy script that not everyone agrees with or abides by. The sixth President of the United States John Quincy Adams established the precedence for this act when he swore his Presidential Oath upon a book of Constitutional Law instead of a traditional Holy Bible and by doing so he affirmed his commitment to the founding principles
