Last year, 32,367 people were killed due to vehicular related accidents and events. This is in comparison to apx 8,000 people killed by firearms in the US last year. If firearms are such deadly objects, then cars are four times worse and should be controlled and restricted in a far stronger manner. Especially since almost anyone is allowed to own, register, be licensed for, and operate these two ton (2,000 lb) death machines.
To be a little more serious, it is a tragedy what happened. But it is not guns that kill people...some one has to pull that trigger. We need better detection and facilities to handle potentially violent people who can just as easily mow down dozens of pedestrians as shoot them with firearms. Fear is never a good path to legislation...look at the TSA.
