FIFA has announced that the 2022 World Cup will take place in Qatar. Although President Obama's term will have ended by then, this Administration still has the power to announce that the USA plans to boycott the event. We believe this is more than justified, considering that:
-Qatar is one of the world's largest hubs for human trafficking and modern-day slavery.
-Migrant workers who are building the World Cup stadiums are denied food, water, and their pay. Over 1,100 laborers from India and Nepal have already died due to lax safety and poor working conditions.
-Apostasy from Islam is punishable by death in Qatar.
-There is no freedom of speech; critics of the government have received harsh jail sentences.
-Alcohol consumption (including by foreign nationals) is punishable by flogging.
