The University of Louisiana Lafayette (ULL) has been referring to itself as the University of Louisiana, when Louisiana Law (ulsystem.edu/assets/docs/searchable/boards/M-%20(2)_name_change_policies.pdf)
states that The use of the two-letter University of Louisiana abbreviation, “UL,” and/or the
phrase “U of L” are prohibited by the university or any of its affiliated organizations
(alumni associations, development foundations). For academic, athletic, as well as other purposes not specified, the use of the
University of Louisiana abbreviation must always include the abbreviation for the
municipal location of the institution.
ULL has repetitively and deliberately broken this statute, and devalued the degrees and athletic departments of the other University of Louisiana Institutions.
