Anti-personnel land mines are explosive devices which are designed to be hidden in an area, and triggered by being stepped upon. Land mines remain deadly for decades after their installation, and kill or maim indiscriminately.
This petition requests that the US government ratify the Ottawa Treaty of 1997, and pledge never to use anti-personnel mines. The treaty also specifies signatories will destroy their stockpiles of mines, and remove them wherever they are deployed.
