The word(s) "bum" and "homeless person" are degrading and dehumanizing. Instead of focusing on what these people don't have, we should focus on their humanity and their current living situation. Calling them "street people" serves as a much more life affirming moniker and allows other "housed" people to be reminded that they aren't sub-human, just living sub-standard.
