We the people ask the federal government to Call on Congress to act on an issue:

he Arecibo Observatory in PR is in danger of being closed or severely impaired, take action to keep it well funded.

Created by E.D. on May 27, 2016

As the largest single dish telescope in the world the Arecibo Observatory provides a unique opportunity for science education and world class research in Puerto Rico. The NSF recently cut funding for the Observatory by $4 million. The site is constantly threatened with budget cuts, the next possibly coming within two weeks. Research collaborations at Arecibo are often international projects including multiple countries. Funding the observatory will continue the production of research at a Nobel prize winning installation, increase scientific interest in the local community, and help Puerto Rico recover from some of the economic damage the current economic crisis has caused. Help us protect this historical installation by asking the Government to keep the Arecibo Observatory well funded!
