Jury duty is a requirement. It is also a serious civic duty that employees and employers should take seriously, especially large employers. The federal government should require all employers that get over $1 million of business from the federal government to:
Excuse their night-shift employees from work on the shift night before AND the night shift after their jury duty. Some employers allow to be excused on only one of those night shifts, but that means the night-shift employee would potentially have to stay awake for up to 24 hours straight to complete their shift, eat, travel to and serve on jury duty. That is not healthy for employees, employers, or court system. The policy should apply to all jury duty, including municipal, county, state, and federal jury duty.
