Calculating student loan repayment off of income before taxes are taken out skews the actual income that students have. This practice is helping to cripple generations of students, squeeze the middle class, and stifle economic growth as there is less money going back into small business and services. A simple act such as changing the regulation to calculate after taxes would not only show that the White House is serious about education and student loan reform, but immediately alleviate at least some of the monetary burden that collegiate graduates live with every day.
