More people than ever are aware of the increasing income gaps between the majority of people and the very wealthy; the majority of people are now in favor of taxing the wealthiest in a fair way.
This can be used as a way to help balance the budget.
An untapped source of government revenue, equally unfair now and equally as potentially useful as the current low taxes the very wealthy pay, is the status of "religious organizations" as exempt from paying taxes.
Whether treated as corporations and paying the corporate tax rate, taxing them like other non-profit organizations, or taxing them as individual persons-- in some cases then paying those rates that voters demand the very wealthy pay-- this would not only comply finally with separation of church and state, but help balance the budget.
