help close the deficit by instituting a 20% tax on gross movie box office, home video and pay-per-view sales

Created by B.R. on November 18, 2012

After World War 2, the United States had large amounts of debt, and in order to help pay it off, a 20% tax on gross box office receipts was introduced. Given our current fiscal situation, this tax should be reimposed as a new source of revenue. It should also be extended to DVD/Blu-Ray sales, Pay-Per-View movies and streaming services to account for the changes in today's world. This would help to make sure all of those rich people in the entertainment industry are paying their fair share in helping us get out of this debt problem. In my rough estimation, ($30 billion per year in sales) this would raise $60 billion in new tax revenue over 10 years. Its not a solution, but its an important step in the right direction.
